“Families are like branches on a tree: we grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one.”
I love when people reach out to me to book a photo session for their extended family. These are typically sibling’s, (who have their own families) coming together to gift a session to their parents, or parents with older children who are home from college or university to visit. Whatever the reason, these types of photos will be cherished for a lifetime!
Last month I was lucky to meet so many new friends with Extended Family Photo Sessions. I typically don’t work through December as we usually travel to spend time with our families for the holidays. Well, with 2020 being 2020 that couldn’t happen, so I hung out with all of you!
You Never Know
Family and photography mean a lot to me, so naturally I’m all emotional over here as I write this. You just never know what tomorrow will bring. 2020 taught me a lot of things. Most of all, it taught me that your time is precious, and that you never know what the future holds. Photos like this are not only for the present, they are for the future. It’s not very often as families grow up and have families of their own, that you can all get together like this, so why not capture it! I promise you, these will be passed down and cherished for a lifetime. The last time I saw my mom I wanted to take some photos of her and my kids. She begged me to set up the tripod and jump in for a few photos and I’m so glad that I did. Check out that session here! You better believe whenever we can all get together again I’ll be booking an extended family photo session with both sides of our family.
3 Tips to Book your Extended Family Photo Session
- Book Early! Trying to get a large group of people together made up of a few families can be challenging. Schedule far enough out where everyone can put it on the calendar and have time to prepare.
- Make sure everyone is involved in the planning. Get everyone excited about the session, right down to the kids, and it will come across during your session.
- Find a great photographer 🙂 I will help you find a central location that will work for everyone. It will have easy parking and a large enough space for everyone to move around. Also, I will send you a private styling email to help out with color choices and what to wear. My goal is to help make this as EASY as possible for you and your family.
My Wish For You
Trying to get everyone together for an Extended family Photo session can seem daunting and stressful. My hope is to convince all of you to put in that effort, make time and DO IT! Capturing your growing families is just as important as those other milestones that you make happen.
