Don’t judge a book by it’s cover (Part 1)
I’ve been scouting out this location for quite a while now. Back in February of this year, I took a family there for the first time. Check it out HERE I’m the type of person who always needs a plan. Most sessions, I get there super early and walk around making a plan of where I’m going to shoot, even if I’ve been there 25 times. When I was walking around with this family, I immediately fell in love. I fell in love with all of the imperfections that made this location perfect. It had character, it had color, it had texture, and it was so special in it’s own way.
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover (Part 2)
I’ve been taking photos of this family for the past few years now, but they’ve always done my Tree Farm Mini’s. This year it was time for a change and I’m SO glad they wanted this location. We first started talking about what to wear. This is one of those locations that I told them to just BE THEMSELVES. I wanted their personalities to shine through just like this hidden gem for a location. You see, I tell all of my clients to make sure they are comfortable in what they are wearing and let me tell you it sure comes across in the pictures.
The Panic
Do you remember in the first paragraph about how I always need a plan? Ya….well sometimes you can only “plan” so much. As always I got there about 30-40 minutes before our session to make sure I knew where I was going to shoot. As soon as I turned down the street, my heart dropped. There were people all around for this not so busy little area. I couldn’t find parking so I decided to drive the circle around the block where I would shoot. Half of the block was blocked off! There was a street sale, or something going on. Ya, panic set in a little bit. I had no choice but to take a deep breath, go find parking and tell myself “I got this!” Right as I found parking, I saw my clients pull in too. There was now no time for my “plan” so, in my mind, we had to wing it.
“Winging” it
This session seriously took my breath away and exceeded ALL of my exceptions. These guys and gals were completely themselves, went with the flow and we all had so much fun. We broke the rules and walked down the middle of the street (safely of course) we saw a few things that maybe we would have rather not, haha, we checked out the street sale, we danced, well she danced, to the beats that were being played in the street, and we ended to some pretty awesome light.
You see, things may not always look pretty on the outside, and things may not always go according to plan. Always remember to dig deep and see the inner beauty and try to look at your glass half full. Take a deep breath and tell yourself, “I got this!” If you have a good attitude, chances are it will end OK.
